(ARA) - Painting is one of the most popular home improvement projects you can undertake, but it can be more difficult than you might think. Whether you’re planning an interior or exterior painting project, hiring a painting contractor will save a lot of time and energy in the long run.

Before you hire a painting contractor, there are some things you should take into consideration:

* How long has the contractor been in business? There can be a high turnover rate in the painting industry. Be sure to hire someone who has been operating for at least two to three years.

* Are employees experienced painters? Make sure the company hires skilled workers. Ask what training or qualifications they have.

* Does the contractor have insurance? It is absolutely critical that they have the necessary insurance. A reputable, licensed painting contractor will have coverage. Remember, it protects him and any workers he may have on site, as well as you.

* What kind of preparation work does the painting contractor do? A cheaper job will skimp on the prep work to cut corners. A good contractor will take the time to do everything the way it should be done. The workmanship will show in the end, good or bad.

* Can they provide a list of references? Once you have the references in hand, call them.

* Can the painting contractor make recommendations on what materials will work best for your project? A professional keeps up-to-date on the latest products and techniques, makes suggestions for colors and finishes, and is knowledgeable about the latest trends. Experience counts.

* Make sure they put everything in writing. A professional provides customers with written contracts and specifications.

* Will they offer a maintenance program? Some will, it’s worth asking.

* How much do they charge? Getting the lowest price should not be your first consideration. You want to get someone with skill, experience, insurance, awareness of safety issues and good workers. That will not likely be the guy with the lowest bid. It doesn’t need to be the highest bid either. Just be sure not to hire on price alone. Look at the whole picture. Painters operate on very tight profit margins. Some homeowners hire college students and are happy with the work. If the price seems too good to be true, however, it probably is.

Recession means misery for everyone right? Not necessarily so, while many people do feel the crunch when the economy turns down many others are quick profit from an economic downturn. This is the way the world. How would you like to be able to buy your dream home at a bargain price, by a fast car cheap, or find there’s always an empty table at your favorite restaurant? Welcome to the world of a recession. For many people recession means misery and shortage. Other people will find that their money goes much further than he is to. You don’t need to be a billionaire like Warren Buffett to realize that a major economic recession is on the way. But some observers are arguing that were heading for the biggest recession any generation here is some advice on how to profit from the recession.

Sadly it is true that making money in recession often means taking advantage of someone else’s misfortune, buying some poor families repossessed home at a bargain basement price, investing in liquor stocks for those that are about to drown their miseries. Most people find this prospect unsettling, it’s a lot like the reverse of Robin Hood taking from the poor and giving to the rich.

Be that as it may, there are practical aspects to wise money management during times of recession. And although they would never admit it all this talk of recession leaves the men who auction off foreclosed homes rubbing their hands with glee. Many of the property sold at auctions are homes that have been foreclosed on from the financially stressed by a mortgage company. During good times, it’s easy to sell foreclosed homes without placing them on the auction block. But when things start to look difficult and the inventories of unsold homes began to pile up, auctions become the outlet. Some of the early signs of a housing recession are increasing listings of homes for sale in the newspapers by the realtors and realtors unable to move their inventory. Soon there are more homes listed in no buyers to look at them these homes then move into foreclosure and ultimately to the auction block where they are sold at a big loss not only to the bank but to the homeowner who has lost his dream home.

It is already evidence that some first-time buyers have been seen in foreclosure auctions in search of a bargain as the economy turns down expect to see more sales and more bargains. Mark Canton, director of Countrywide Property Auctions, says his company expects to sell thousands of properties this year at sales and overall expects his business to be up by some 200% this year alone.

United States housing market has seen an unprecedented boom in prices over the last few years. As with all booms just like the dot.com boom of a few years ago the party eventually ends. It seems that time has come now for the United States housing market. Prices are falling almost universally across America, and foreclosures are rising to new highs.

In fact the housing market in the United States is getting so bad that some major stock funds have already crashed and banks are in jeopardy. Also just look at the price of Gold, it has more than doubled recently, this is a sure sign of the smart money jumping out of the stock market. This is likely the beginning of a recession not only in the housing market but in the general economy. Good jobs have been exported from the country through outsourcing leaving many people unable to pay their mortgages.

Some experts believe the housing market will fall at least 30% in the near future some are afraid it could be much more. This is a particularly frightening scenario for people holding adjustable-rate mortgages and people who are financed for more than the equity value of their home. Many people who took out second and third mortgages for frivolous reasons are going to feel a very painful crunch in their financial outlook.

As more more properties come onto the market and buyers become more cautious, real estate agents are going to be dealing with more inventory having so many properties on the books that they will be unable to sell them all.

Now that the housing market in America is crashing, it seems that the news is likely to get worse before it gets any better. Many people who would like to sell their homes are wondering should I sell my house now before the market gets worse? Or should I wait until next year and hope it will get better?

Many people are asking should I put my house on the market now or perhaps should I wait till next summer when maybe prices will be increasing?

It’s hard to know the answer to this question, the housing market is made up of hundreds of different areas around the country. Market conditions in these areas can vary quite a bit and while some areas may be reasonably strong other areas are terrible. In some areas there are many more for sale signs that our buyers and houses are sitting on the market for months but no one looking at them. Some sellers can’t wait they bought a house that into financial trouble and can’t make the payments any longer. Many people have been downsized or outsourced from their jobs and had to take positions that pay a lot less.

You can tell the condition of your local market by taking a look at the number of unsold houses that are up for sale and then taking a look at the recent number of sales. If the real estate listings are getting longer and houses are staying on the market longer this makes your local housing market a buyers market. In other words, the pressure on home prices is forcing sale prices downward and you’re likely to get less for your home than you would have previously. The local real estate agent can give you this kind of information.

This information won’t tell you how many other home sellers are also becoming desperate in your area, many of them may still be waiting hoping the market will get better when they are struggling financially. The demand for homes usually picks up in the spring especially amongst families that are moving between school years. Some people will be waiting for this seasonal upturn in the housing market. However what sometimes happens as many people list at the same time based on this strategy and actually end up forcing prices down and hurting themselves.

Something to keep in mind is all the major recessions since World War II have been preceded by a housing sales decline in the current market does not seem to be any exception to that rule. This can become a self-fulfilling prophecy in that the housing industry provides about 13% of the nations jobs. If the housing industry slips this affects unemployment in the country which then feeds additional pressure forcing the housing market down still farther.

Price deflation for homes can also accelerate in the current situation because so many homes have been financed to people with weak credit and a number of second mortgages that have been financed at up to 125% of the homes of actual equity make for a very dangerous situation in which many people may be forced to dump their homes below market in order to get out from under the payments.

Our sources in the refinancing industry are telling us that sources of capital for doing refinances have been steadily drying up since October with many other sources telling them even as far back as October they were doing no more lending whatsoever. This is going to add a great deal of pressure on real estate prices.

Always remember that in any market there are buyers if the price is right and that if you make your place standout you have a shot at selling your home to one of these buyers. However in order to sell your home you’re going to need to stand out from the crowd. You’re going to need inside information tips and tricks that will generate more traffic in terms of people looking at your home and bring you offers. This is a tough market and you’re going to need an edge to sell your home quickly. In addition you can get more money net at the sale by saving on commissions paid to realtors. Remember in a flooded housing market where there are more homes than there are buyers adding your listing two the long list that the realtors already have is not going to get your house sold.
